Michel

Alexis Michel is an attorney with more than 20 years of experience specialized in the practice areas of foreign trade, customs law and regulatory law. 

​

He obtained his J.D. with honors from the Division of Higher Studies of Centro Universitario México, in 1998 and his specialization in Tax Law, with honors, from the Universidad Panamericana in 2006.

​

His practice has focused on customs law, foreign trade and regulatory law as well as the analysis, identification and development of areas of opportunity for expansion for his clients in accordance with the administrative instruments implemented by Mexican authorities. He has specialized in the enforcement of free trade agreements, tariff classification, tariff valuation, verification of origin, criteria confirmations, certifications, permits, licenses and authorizations before different authorities, as well as in foreign trade promotion programs, such as IMMEX, Sectorial Promotion and VAT / IEPS Certification.

He has extensive experience in internal audits in connection with obligations derived from foreign trade and regulatory operations. He has represented his clients before several tax and customs authorities in audits as well as in different administrative proceedings and appeals of resolutions related to such audits. Additionally, he has experience in matters of unfair international trade practices such as subsidies or imports under conditions of price discrimination (antidumping).

He was Coordinator of the Foreign Trade Commission of the Mexican Bar Association, and is an active member of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce, the American Chamber of Commerce and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

​

Previously, he was a partner at SMPS Legal (2013-2021) and Tron y Natera (2008-2013). He also worked at White & Case - Mexico and at Jáuregui, Navarrete, Nader y Rojas.

He is fluent in English and Spanish.
